How to spice up your pantry the Mediterranean way

But it was the tart, earthy, tingly, subtly sweet notes provided by the sumac and Aleppo pepper that made such a lasting impression. Extra-virgin olive oil, yogurt and feta cheese are dietary mainstays, along with seasonal produce, legumes, whole grains and lean proteins. Made from deep-red Halaby chile peppers, Aleppo pepper is named for the Syrian city where it once grew in abundance. Dukkah, a blend of nuts, seeds and warm spices, makes a savory, crunchy topping on everything from soups to salads. Baharat is just one of a combination of warm spices that can punch up a chicken dish the Mediterranean way.

Tupperware stereotyped women as much as it empowered themTupperware parties became popular social and marketing events in the 1950s and 60s. They wanted to present an upscale version of themselves because these were also events where women were recruited into the Tupperware sales force,” he said. Tupperware products were the centerpiece of the event, carefully stacked and presented to be shown off. Wise, a divorced single mother living in Florida, held her own Tupperware parties in the 1940s and 50s and became a budding entrepreneur. Like Blockbuster, the Tupperware brand will never go away,” he said.
New York CNN —For decades, Girl Scouts has used cookie sales to raise funds and teach scouts about entrepreneurship. “Right now we are focused on ensuring all Girl Scouts have a successful Cookie Season,” Girl Scouts USA told CNN in a statement, adding that it is also focused on optimizing its operations “in real-time, and [capturing] learnings that will inform our strategy going into future seasons.”But for the scouts, those learnings have been hard-won. That meant shoppers could order it themselves, though Girl Scouts encouraged them to ask scouts to place the orders. Plus, Girl Scouts built a lot of hype with the limited-time offer, creating a sense of urgency, Esper noted. Trustbusters pick fight that can make friends
  + stars: | 2023-03-24 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
CHICAGO, March 24 (Reuters Breakingviews) - After a year of fighting losing battles, one of the United States’ biggest trustbusters is taking on a fight where it will be easy to find support. The Federal Trade Commission proposed new rules on Thursday that would make canceling subscriptions less burdensome for consumers. That’s in stark contrast to the complex, lengthy and occasionally contentious — and unsuccessful — antitrust fights the commission had been waging. The agency is seeking a rule change, not a legal fight. They do not reflect the views of Reuters News, which, under the Trust Principles, is committed to integrity, independence, and freedom from bias.
Last month, Starbucks launched a new line of olive oil-infused coffee and espresso drinks in Italy. Starbucks Reserve Roasteries in Chicago, Seattle, and New York will be the first stores to offer the olive oil elixirs. Reserve stores like the chain's new Empire State Building location sell premium coffee and espresso drinks. Dousing your morning brew with olive oil may sound unappetizing to some. The Delish food site said the Oleato Iced Shaken Espresso was a terrific choice for iced coffee fans.
This is the way the Girl Scout cookie crumbles. The inventory woes have caused a shortage of some cookie flavors that have sent Girl Scout cookie resale prices skyrocketing. Boxes of Girl Scout cookies typically go for $5 a pop. "We are extremely disappointed that LBB is again having challenges with managing their production," a Girl Scouts spokesperson told CNBC. The other 25% of Girl Scout councils are supplied by ABC Bakers, a smaller baking company that the Girl Scouts say has not had the same production issues as LBB.
When I first read about the new Girl Scout cookie flavor that was flying off digital shelves and selling for hundreds of dollars on eBay, I was skeptical. I like Girl Scout cookies as much as the next guy — my favorites are Trefoils and Lemon-Ups — but I couldn't imagine myself visiting the resale market to get my hands on a box. They're described as a "thin, crispy cookie infused with raspberry flavor, dipped in chocolaty coating." After tasting the Rallys for the first time, it was pretty evident why the Girl Scouts haven't been able to keep it in stock. The Girl Scouts organization itself has released a statement criticizing resellers for "looking to make a profit off of the name without supporting our mission and the largest girl-led entrepreneurship program in the world."

December is the month for eating all the cookies

Editor’s Note: Food writer Casey Barber says December is the month for baking cookies. Freezing cookies can also help save time in the long run by allowing you to start your holiday baking early. Lin makes cookies weeks in advance of his parties and thaws them at room temperature up to two days before an event. If you are short on timeBar cookies are Lin’s secret weapon when it comes to holiday baking. Many cookies, such as Lin’s red velvet crackle cookies, require that the dough be chilled before portioning and rolling, so it’s key to take that into consideration.
